Giving Back Through Officiating: Supporting the Next Generation of Swimmers

"I used my CCB hours to officiate at the Mt Hood Conference district swim meet and the OSAA 6A State Championship meet the following weekend. Both my son and I graduated from David Douglas HS (MHC), so I love giving back to that community and representing DDHS.

It was fantastic to watch as the DDHS Scots claimed the MHC Championship both the girls team (4th year in a row) and boys team (their 3rd in 4 yrs). Multiple swimmers from DDHS qualified for the OSAA 6A Championship Meet in Tualatin and among those, Ariya A. (Soph) beat out her competition with a 23.13 sec race in the 50yd Freestyle, earning her an individual state championship (back-to-back!) and an All American Qualifying Time! In addition to Ariya’s individual state championship, the girls’ 200yd Freestyle Relay team also won their race for DDHS’s second State Championship. The boys’ team had some strong top 8 finishes as well in relays as well as individual races, earning them their second-consecutive 7th place ranking in the state. The girls ranked 5th in state rankings for the second year in a row. Between Zach’s club swimming and the DDHS swimming, I’ve had the pleasure and honor of watching (and officiating) some of these kids since they were 6-7 years old.

To see them reaching such heights in their swim careers is incredible and humbling. Earlier in the season, Ariya became our first-ever Junior Nationals qualifier and was able to represent the DDAC club in Austin, TX. I hope to continue to officiate as long as I can, as these meets are run completely by volunteers, most of whom, like me, no longer have swimmers in the water. I’m so thankful that CSG allows me to use my CCB hours to give back to a community that was so big for my son." - Robin Y., CSG AP Manager
